What is Indefinite Chilled Rolls(IC ROLLS)?

Chilled rolls, also known as chilled cast iron rolls, are important components used in several industrial applications, especially in metal processing

  • Rolling mills

Hot rolling: Chilled rolls are used in hot rolling mills to roll heated metal billets into metal plates, strips or bars of different shapes and sizes. Due to the high temperatures and pressures involved in the hot rolling process, the heat resistance and wear resistance of the chilled rolls are very important.
Cold rolling: During the cold rolling process, chilled rolls are used to further process the metal to achieve the required thickness, finish and mechanical properties. Cold rolling is usually carried out at room temperature, so the rolls must have high hardness and smooth surfaces.

  • Bar and wire rolling

Chilled rolls are used to roll metal billets into bars and wires. These rolls are capable of withstanding high pressures and provide precise dimensional control and surface finish.

  • Sheet and strip rolling

During the production of sheet and strip, chilled rolls are used to roll metal billets into thin sheets or strips. They provide the required surface hardness and dimensional accuracy to ensure product quality.

  • Special steel rolling

Chilled rolls play an important role in the production of special steels such as stainless steel and alloy steel. These steels usually have high hardness and strength, and chilled rolls can provide the necessary rolling force and surface quality.

  • High Hardness

The surface hardness of chilled rolls is usually 60-80 HRC (Rockwell Hardness Scale), which allows them to withstand the high pressure and wear in metal processing.

  • Wear Resistance

Due to their high hardness, chilled rolls exhibit excellent wear resistance and are able to maintain their surface quality and dimensional accuracy for a long time, reducing the need for frequent replacement and downtime.

  • Good Thermal Stability

Chilled rolls have excellent thermal stability and are able to maintain their mechanical properties under high temperature conditions. This is particularly important in hot rolling processes to prevent the rolls from deforming or failing at high temperatures.

  • Precision and Surface Finish

The hard surface of the chilled roll allows for high-precision rolling, ensuring that the finished product has a consistent thickness and good surface finish. This is particularly important for cold rolling and the production of special steels.

  • Tough Core

The core of the chilled roll is soft and tough, which can absorb shock and pressure and prevent cracks or breaks during the rolling process. This dual structure provides a perfect combination of surface hardness and internal toughness.

  • Diverse Designs

Chilled rolls can be designed and customized according to specific application requirements, such as different diameters, lengths and surface textures to meet the needs of different metal processing processes.

Product advantage

The world No. 1 in crude steel production steel plant, over 70% of the HSS for bar and wire are from us.

LMM high-speed steel rolls have higher steel passing per groove (times) due to their good wear resistance, which saves roll changing time, improves rolling mill operation rate, reduces roll consumption, and improve the overall efficiency of the factory.
Generally, the amount of steel passing in a single groove (times) is 3 to 5 times that of cast iron rolls.
